Akwa Ibom Governor Visits Keyamo, Announces Plans To Concession State Owned MRO

Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo on Friday, November 24th, 2023 received in audience, the executive governor of Akwa Ibom State, Uno Udom Bassey Emmanuel in his office.

In a statement issued by the special assistant to the minister on communication, Tunde Moshood, the Akwa Ibom
governor’s visit is not unconnected with one of the state’s capital investments, Ibom Air, operated by the Akwa Ibom Investment Corporation (AKICORP).

During the visit, the Akwa Ibom governor briefed the Minister on the successes of one of the State’s investments, Ibom Air which is fast becoming the toast of the aviation industry.

The CEO of the State owned airline, Ibom Air, Mr. Mfon Udom announced the delivery of ten (10) brand new Airbus A220-300 ordered from the 2021 Dubai Airshow to further ease its airline operations.

According to the governor: “This visit is long overdue, there’s a need to brief you officially that we have just taken delivery of brand new aircraft, ten of them, Airbus A220-300 will be used to further ease the airline operations and position the airline for expansion across diverse African destinations.

“So, we’re looking at factoring out a symbiotic relationship between Akwa Ibom State and your office as the Aviation Minister, a situation where our aircraft’ overhaul facility, Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul(MRO) will officially be concessioned by the federal government”.

The governor used the visit to invite the Minister to Akwa Ibom for an inspection tour of the MRO facility on the state at his convenient time.

In his response, the Minister commended the commitment and determination of the Akwa Ibom State government towards providing world-class airline services to the nation.
