The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has raised an alarm over the gradual transformation of the Joint Users Hydriant Installation (JUHI) canal located at the internation wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport into a potential hideout for criminals.
FAAN lamented how the undesirable elements have erected some shanties in close proximity to NAHCO Bridge along the international airport.
The Authority revealed this during a raid carried out which led to the subsequent dismantling of the shanties by the Joint Monitoring Task Force and subsequent arrest of five miscreants.
Those arrested according to a statement issued by the Director, Public affairs and consumer protection at FAAN, Mrs Obiageli Orah, the arrested individuals have been handed over to the Aviation Security Crime Investigation and Intelligence Unit ( CIIU) for further interrogation and necessary action.
According to Obiageli Orah, “the Joint Monitoring Task Force (JMTF) of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos on Friday, January 12 , 2024, mobilised and carried out a raid of the Joint Users Hydriant Installation (JUHI) Canal and the International Access Road Bridge at about 1638hrs.
“The exercise yielded the arrest of five suspects.”
FAAN, while using the opportunity to warn the general public against any encroachment into the airport environment, declared that anyone who has no business at the airport should please stay away. warning that; “The Authority shall deal with anyone caught carrying out any act of vandalism or touting at the airports.”
