Emotions runs high today as the outgoing managing director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mr Kabir Muhammed handed over to his successor, Mrs. Olubunmi Oluwaseun Kuku.
At a brief handover ceremony held at the FAAN’s Operational Headquarters in Lagos, Mr. Kabir Mohammed expressed his appreciation to all staff of the Authority for the cooperation and support he enjoyed while he served as the Chief Executive of the organisation.
He enjoined them to support the new Management,so that the objectives of the organisation can be achieved.
The handover was done in line with the directives issued by federal government to the immediate past FAAN MD and his counterparts at the other aviation agencies to vacate their offices and handover to their successors or to the most senior officers at the different agencies.
According to information gathered, the atmosphere at the brief handover event between the outgoing FAAN Chief and the incoming MD was enveloped with sadness and free flow of tears amongst many of the workers who witnessed the change of batton.
Some of the workers who could not hide their emotions described the sudden removal of the FAAN MD as the worst decision in view of the unforgettable steps he has taken within the six months he held sway at FAAN.
The development is coming even as key players across the sector have expressed their misgivings about the suspension of the director general of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Captain Musa Nuru.
The key players beside accusing the minister of aviation, Festus Keyamo of violating the extant laws that guide the tenure of office of the NCAA DG, took a swipe at the minister for suspending the NCAA DG, ordering his probe while he named a director who served with the suspended DG as a replacement.
According to the stakeholders, retaining the director as the acting DG while other directors with the suspended DG were all removed suggested double standard on the premise that the acting DG also played a critical role in the management of the outgoing DG like other directors.
The restructuring the key players argued should have allowed the NCAA DG to complete his tenure in view of the professionalism he displayed during the Nigeria Air debacles
which prevented the image of the country’s aviation from being rubbished.
