FAAN Apprehends 16 Scavengers, Touts During Raid At Lagos Airport

In light of the need to sanitize the airport and the airport environment, the Joint team of the Joint Monitoring Task Force (JMTF) and the Aviation Security Crime Investigation and Intelligence Unit (AVSEC CII) on Tuesday, 15th August, 2023, conducted a raid at the Murtala Muhammed Airport landside, carparks and access roads.

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) had apprehended 16 suspected touts and hawkers whole carrying out illegal foreign exchange operations and scavenging.

In a statement issued by the spokesperson of the organisation, Malam Abdullahi Yakubu Funtua, the suspects were nabbed by the joint team of the Joint Monitoring Task Force (JMTF) and the Aviation Security Crime Investigation and Intelligence Unit (AVSEC) (CII)on August 15th, 2023 during the raid carried out at the Lagos airport landslide, car parks and access roads.
According to Funtua:”In light of the need to sanitize the airport and the airport environment, the Joint team of the Joint Monitoring Task Force (JMTF) and the Aviation Security Crime Investigation and Intelligence Unit (AVSEC CII) on Tuesday, 15th August, 2023, conducted a raid at the Murtala Muhammed Airport landside, carparks and access roads

“In the course of the raid, Sixteen (16) suspects were apprehended for touting, hawking, carrying out unauthorized foreign exchange operations and Scavenging.”

The suspects according to FAAN have been transferred to the Nigerian Police Command through the AVSEC CII for further action.
