FAAN bars unruly passenger from Abuja airport for destroying facilities

An Abuja bound Benin passenger has been barred by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, (FAAN) from using the Abuja airport for any flight services.

FAAN’s action was triggered by the passenger who forcefully opened and damaged the boarding gate door lock at the airport because his flight to Benin on Air Peace was delayed.

According to the Acting General Manager, Public Affairs, Mrs. Faithful Hope-Ivbaze, the suspect whose name was given as Oghenemini Oyibo Great was arrested by a joint team of security personnel and brought to Crime Intelligence and Investigation Unit (CIIU) office of the Aviation Security.

“At about 20:10hrs of 24th March , 2023, an aggrieved passenger on delayed Air Peace flight to Benin forced the boarding gate door and damaged the lock. No major injury was sustained by the passengers and staff.
The airport staff at the boarding gate witnessed the incident”.

The unruly passenger was interrogated with a statement taken from him and subsequently transferred to the Airport Police command.

The airport authority has therefore, declared him persona non-grata and will no longer be allowed to fly out or into Abuja airport.
