FAAN Pensioners Announce Imminent Protest Over Neglect

The Federal Parastatal and Private Sector Pensioners Association of Nigeria (FEEPPPA), Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) branch has announced that  pensioners of the organisation across the country’s airports will embark on nationwide protest from Fevruart 15, 2025  over the inability of the FAAN  management to grant audience to the association despite several efforts.

Speaking at their first general meeting held at the local wing of the Murtala Muhammed airport, the general secretary of the  FAAN branch of FEEPPPA, Comrade Emeka Njoku, condemned inability of the new FAAN management to meet with them over challenges being faced by the pensioners.

Addressing over 1000 pensioners, Comrade Njoku lamented how the medical facilities approved for their use in the past years were not being enjoyed by the FAAN pensioners due to their unserviceability even while the issue of their minimum wage  has not been addressed too, as the management failed to respond to their correspondence.

According to Njoku: “We have written to FAAN Management to call for meetings to discuss all these outstanding isuues which they have not done. We are watching and this year, we will not tolerate such neglect from FAAN Management. We have to correct the neglect and anomalies”.

Speaking on the minimum wage, Comrade Njoku revealed how N32,000 that was approved for FAAN pensioners and that following the agreement they had with the then FAAN management in 2002 declared  that whenever there was salary increase, that pension should also be increased

Njoku said  while the pensioners have been enjoying the agreement, added that the agreement has been halted under  the present management of FAAN.

While stating that.their request has been sent to Income and Wages commission seeking for approval in terms of percentage, Njoku remarked: “Previous management would call us and present the proposal to us and examine if it corresponds with the salary in the 2002 agreement. But this management has ignored our letter.

“From now till 15th of this month, if they fail to call us for a meeting, we will mobilise our members throughout the country for a protest. They are meeting with other unions discussing workers welfare. Even the Director of Human Resources has not called us for dialogue”

In her reactions, the Managing Director of FAAN, Mrs Olubunmi Kuku, in a telephone call however said she was ready and available to meet with them as she meets people without descimination Tuesdays and Thursdays.
