MMA2 continues to be a pacesetter …Unveils world class art gallery for customers’ pleasure

The operator of the private terminal, otherwise known as MMA2 located at the local wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport has continued to shore up the standard of the edifice in line with international standards.
One of such developmental policies of the terminal’s management under Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL) is to give passengers and other customers patronizing the terminal the commensurate value for their money.
Besides the facilities that measure with what is obtained in developed climes that abound in the terminal which makes travel seamless, the Bi-Courtney management is bringing in new innovations that will make travelers and other airport users enjoy more leisure and comfort while awaiting their flights.
Determined to always give its customers fresh breath while inside or around the terminal building, the BASL management led by the Chairman, Dr Wale Babalakin last week unveiled to all airport users and passengers a standard art gallery, known as ‘The Art Experience’ at the MMA2 for art lovers who while waiting for their flights or arriving Lagos through through the terminal, will have the opportunity to enjoy the natural ambiance made available by a collection of beautiful art works adorning the section of the terminal set aside for the gallery.
Speaking at the unveiling of the gallery, Babalakin declared: “The mandate I gave to the management is to create an environment where people can eat, shop, entertain and in the process fly. It is not an environment where you come and queue in the sun because you want to fly. If you decide to come and fly in MMA2, we have a gallery for flowers, you can buy flowers, have lunch or resolve some communications issues with the companies, you can stay in the Lounge which have internet facilities and do your business. What we have tried to do is to uplift the standards with the hope that anybody who decides to build an airport tomorrow will have all these standards incorporated into their terminals”.
The Bi-Courtney boss, who revealed that the MMA2 terminal which came into existence 16 years ago under the first Public and Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement in the country’s aviation sector remains a world class and the best in the country, explained that the best architects were engaged to design the terminal that will stand the test of time.
“The first thing is that it was a deliberate effort. The design was a major assignment, we didn’t just start building, we sat down with the best of architects in the world to design a terminal that will have a flow, it is the flow that has made it easy for people to operate here. You can see the link between the car park and the terminal, so you are not going through a disjointed journey because you want to travel, you can see that from when you come off the escalator, it is a seamless process till you board the plane.
“And you can also see that we have been very disciplined, we’ve disallowed passengers from operating on our tarmac, we find a way of transporting them. We think that it is backward to have passengers walking on terminals because it’s dangerous, it only takes one accident and the county will be embarrassed. I think that there were a lot of deliberate efforts to design an outstanding terminal.” he added.
While acknowledging that some of the challenges confronting operations in the terminal are yet to be over, Babalakin added: “We give glory to God, for those of you who were here when we started, you are aware of the enormous challenges we went through, we are still trying to surmount some of them, but we’ve been focused and determined that we will make the best of our situation. So, we thank God for what he has done.”
