The court case slammed against the outgoing government to stop the proposed national carrier, the Nigeria from taking off by the domestic airlines may be of no consequences after all as the outgoing minister of aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika has announced that the new carrier will commence operations before May 29, 2023.
This became clearer while the minister during an interview with a television station announced one of the aircraft to be used by the new national carrier will land in the country on Friday as part of processes to commence operations and unveiling of the delivery process.
He promised that the aircraft will be unveiled in Nigeria’s colours in fulfillment of all the promises made by the administration in the aviation sector.
Sirika noted that the only incomplete item is the aerotropolis, which is the airport city and is 60 percent complete.
According to him, the groundwork had been completed and is looking to conclude work on the airport city by the next administration.
Sirika had earlier in March, pledged that Nigeria Air will commence full operations before the end of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.
When exactly asked the exact time the new airline will finally take off, Sirika declared: “Before the end of this administration, before May 29th, we will fly.”
He added that the Federal Government is leaving the aviation sector better than it met it having achieved over 90 percent of the sector’s road map.
The Nigeria Air had applied to the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) for Air Operator Certificate (AOC).
It is however not clear if the AOC has been issued by the NCAA.
